How To Make Distilled Water With A Kettle

If you fear that the water from your tap may not be good for drinking, it is vital that you learn how to distill water in your own kitchen. Since distillation removes bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and other impurities in the water to create pure, clean water. You don’t really need any laboratory or fancy equipment to go about this method. You can adopt this method even if you are in the wilderness.

Essentially, distillation entails boiling the water to produce vapour and getting rid of all contaminants during the boiling stage. Once the water entirely vapourizes, the vapour will be collected in a clean container where it condenses back into pure water. This means, that mere boiling the water is not enough to distill it; it will only remove a few toxins.

What Is Distilled Water?

Distilled water is water that has been boiled into vapour and condensed back into liquid form. Distilled water is a form of purified water. Distillation is one sure way of removing impurities from water. If you need impurity-free water, then it would be best if you distill it.

One of the ways of distilling water is with a kettle. It is worthy to note that not all kettles are suitable for making distilled water at home. The most preferred kettle is one that has a removable lid and not the hinged type that can’t be removed completely. Below are the steps to take to make distilled water with a kettle.

How To Make Distilled Water With A Kettle

Step 1

The first step to take is to fill a kettle with water from the tap.

Step 2

Then you proceed to put it on the gas to boil. It is expected to stay 8-10 minutes on fire before it starts to boil. Ensure the water is steaming already before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3

When the water starts steaming, take the top off the kettle, but it should still be boiling. You can then quickly use a plastic bowl to put over the kettle. Keep it there for around five minutes.

Step 4

You will find out that all the steam will be caught and trapped by the plastic bowl, and the steam will turn into a liquid which is your distilled water. As for the minerals and chemicals in the tap water, they will die out in the steam.

How Do I Store Distilled Water?

What is the point of going through the entire process of distillation only for it to become contaminated again? Hence, the need to store it properly after extraction. The best way to store distilled water is to keep it in a clean glass bottle, and should not be open if you want to use the water.

Keep the bottle in a clean, dry place and away from the reach of direct sunlight, and moisture. The bottle should be tightly sealed to prevent the entrance of contaminants into the distilled water

Conclusion

Distilled water is boiled water that is left to cool to become water again. It prevents metals from getting clogged up inside water. It also has various uses in medical and industrial niches. Despite its usefulness, it is easy to prepare in your kitchen, and anywhere you find yourself.
